Sony APM-55W

Picked up a pair of Sony APM-55W in the box with original packing, appear mint except for surrounds.

Any idea what these are worth and what can be done with the surrounds?

Hmm I've seen them go from 50-100 bucks. The surrounds are a bit of a pain, but I think not to bad to replace. However it could ding ya in the profit margin if you plan to flip.

I have a pair that I bought new. Search AK and you will find out plenty about them.

I am waiting for a reasonable fix for the surrounds too. I think there was talk of one recently.

It used to be the only solution was making something out of chamois, it is on a Japanese web site.

I'd bet money those were from a GI. That's what I was when I got mine.

Do you mind me asking where you seen them go for $50-100 bucks? They were $1100 in 1983. With inflation $2700 today. Really hard to import and not exported to the U.S. so... I would figure $500-1000 would be a steal.

A nice pair with new surrounds sold for $350 in the past year. It's a good speaker, not true APM's the woofer seen here is from the 55 and has a single center coil with 4 points glued between the coil and "cone". The 77, 77w and the ESPRIT models used the 4 coil woofers directly mounted to the diaphragm.
Point is, seems $350-400 would be a fair estimate regarding resale.
There's a fellow on that auction site who sells the proper surrounds.

Damn I guess I should join. I was looking at a new old stock pair on yahoo japan. $900 + $900 shipping. Really did not seem like that bad of a deal compared to inflation. The gent on vintage knob really seems to love his 77w's.

The 77 & 77w are part of the true APM's with 4 coil woofers. If that's what you're looking at, $1,800.00 isn't a bad deal, depending on condition. Needs to be pretty good at that ask.
