Sony APM-66ES vs new tech

Would the Sony APM-66es speakers hold up to today's speakers of same price point? Would I be better off waiting until I find a pair for sale or is there a brand new speaker that is currently on the market that would be way better? I'm told by people that speaker technology has improved a lot in the last 40 years, but how much?

The APM-66ES speakers are superb and well up to modern standards. You'd have to spend a great deal of money to better them with something modern, IMHO.
