I recently bought a cdp-303 es cd player and after testing I noticed that one of the channels didn't work via headphones. After prodding around a bit I noticed the issue was with the potmeter which in hindsight makes a lot of sense as the knob was damaged already so it most likely had some sort of impact. I tried to repair the potentiometer but I sadly damaged one of the carbon tracks on the already defective channel. Luckily I had a parts cd player laying around, a philips cd 615, that has a fairly similar potentiometer. After some fiddling I got it to fit and I even glued a piece of plastic on the knob to make it useable again. However the current potentiometer only goes up to 10k ohms while the old one seemed to be around 19k ohms according to my measurements. As a result it does not ever stop producing sound, even when turned all the way down. Now I sadly do not remember what it was like before replacement but I have a cdp 559 which does mute completely when turned down. So my question is if it's normal for there to still be sound even with the potentiometer turned to the max resistance. I do not mind if it's not as dampened as it's supposed to be, but if it originally is supposed to be muted when turned down then I do want to resolve this.
