Sony CDP C800 compact disc player

Good evening-

Just picked up a very clean Sony CDP C800 from Savers in Massachusetts for $9.99. Brought it home with low expectations. It actually works! Sounds nice paired with my Pioneer SX1010 and Klipsch Heresy speakers. Does anyone have any information about this particular CD player? Not much info on the web. Was it considered well made with good components? Any idea it’s price in 1989?

Thanks.

Thanks so much for the response. I’ve been looking for a nice CD player for a long time and finally happened upon one at a discount store. Can’t believe that it actually works.

I have the similar looking C325 from a few years later [92]. I like mine. $25 at Salvation Army.

I am always shocked when I find stuff on the sidewalk that works perfectly. As for CD players both my SONY XA20ES [now sold on] and my Onkyo DX-1800 were perfectly functional sidewalk scores. Heck the ES deck even had the RCA cable and remote neatly sitting on top!

I had one and enjoyed it, it sounded great. I had to replace the optical pickup (KSS-210a) which luckily was still available at a reasonable price. It's the same player as the CDP-C8ESD.

It was SONY's best changer in 1989 I believe, at least the top one from the 1989 catalog which you can find on hifiengine (https://www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/sony/high-fidelity-components.shtml).

Not sure on price new! Congrats!
Do you happen to know what DAC is in it?
