Sony CDP-C9ESD... anyone have experience with one?

Picked up one of these as a gamble at the local thrift a week or so ago for $15 is more or less excellent condition - even came with the oem remote with nary a scratch or wear mark on it.. had to buy the xa-10b 10 disc magazine on the bay as it didn't come with one. just got that in a few days ago and mannnnn do I love this thing. using presently as a transport - optical out into my Yamaha receiver and it sounds gorgeous. sounds even better through my old Sony STR-DA50ES. only thing is.. I can't find any information anywhere about it at all. short of the fact that it was manufactured in July of 1989 I know nothing about what's inside. anyone have any information or experience with one of these units? if so, what were your thoughts on sound/build quality etc.?

needless to say, I absolutely adore it and while it's strange not dropping a needle, I'm loving getting back into my old cd collection. definitely worth the price of admission. attached is a photo for your enjoyment

I picked up one of these as well a week or two ago and I love it. Built like a tank. Very nice looking and great sounding. The only issue I have with it is that it's a bit prone to skipping with less than perfect discs and / or footfall.

Note that the CDPC900 is the same player in terms of servicing, just with lesser quality internals. We got the good stuff! The C9ESD seems to be quite rare.

What I'm trying to figure out is how to expose the laser lens in this thing so I can clean it. I haven't been able to figure it out just yet.
If anyone can help with that I'd love that.

@bdefanski how is yours with scratched discs and footfall?

Mine doesn't like rough disks and kids stomping around the room. My other players don't have any problems with either things.

I opened it up again and I did manage to expose the lens and clean it. I also cleaned and lubricated the metal rail along which the laser mechanism moves. I tried to clean the clamp that grabs the CD the best I could as well but it's hard to reach properly. On my Philips CD-60 cleaning that part made the difference between super skippy and absolutely rock solid never skipping a beat.

With this guy I unfortunately haven't been able to get any improvements yet.
