These players have some common issues regarding disc reading.

505, 559, 707, 779 have faulty memory capacitors rated 0.1F 5.5V when they will leak electrolyte its possible traces to be eaten on servo board, second issue are BSL power supply capacitors to be found on BSL drive board 10uF 16V.
Same thing as above, eaten traces will cause malfunctions, at the end it will even cause power supply failure, most likely R969 will get burned. All the issues posted above cause problems with reading disc, spinning disc and movement of Focus coil.

X-33ES have faulty elna duorex capacitors which also gettin leaky after years, in most cases it affect only audio section, sound distorted or lack of sound at all.
Replacing all duorex is a must, distorted sound is caused by faulty muting transistors, these get faulty by electrolyte leak all over the board

Good to know, I’ve got a X33EX, it’s in great cond. and has no issues but If it does start to have issues I know what to look for.

My advice is to recap before any issues will occur

Not sure all have the said issue you speak of. Mine has low hours and was given to me by the original owner. In the box. It may develop an issue and when it does I’ll be sure to recap, as for now it’s to clean and works to perfect to want to mess with. I am going to download the SM from HIFi Engine and take a look at the parts list. I know a few others have done some mods to the 33 that “improve” the sound stage. As of now I don’t see any leaking caps, and it sounds fantastic.

Got a 505ES I bought new in 1991 if I recall correct, I went all the way to Rome to get it, still own and sent to have the output stage upgraded but the tech, for some reason, disabled the variable output and even tho the cables/plugs seem connected I don't get any output off of that, any clue what could I look at to restore it?

Thanks
