Good afternoon,

I have a vintage sony CDP552ESD cd player, which works fine except that the laser is completely gone. Does anyone know what part do I need to look for, and where I can buy it?

There should be a part number on the laser assembly, being a Sony, will probably start with KSS-??? Just search the part number on the net.
 
I looked in the service manual. there was no call out for the optical pickup alone. They had the entire mechanism listed as a replacement part, which is not going to be available. The laser looks to be the same used in the CDP-102 and CDP-302 which is not available.
