Sony DVP-S7000 crackling and static on digital output

Recently, I acquired a fancy Parasound DAC-1500, and got around to putting into my system today. I hooked up the Sony via coaxial, and began listening. Loved the sound for a few minutes, then I hear a burst of crackling. Wha? Determined, I press on anyways, until I hear it again. I noticed with the cd not playing, there was static on the input, with a crackling noise on the right channel. I double checked by switching to another input on the DAC, and to my relief, it is not the DAC. I found that the same problem happens on the optical out, but not the analog out. Can anyone help me diagnose this problem?

One thing to check when using audio digital out with a DVD player is to make sure digital out is set to PCM, and not one of the Dolby formats. Depending on the unit, you may need to have a video screen connected to the player in order to see what these settings are.

I don't think this is likely this is your issue because you did get music and not hash, but it is still worthwhile checking.

Nope, don't think so. I think I figured it out, seems to be a loose solder joint inside the player where the digital output connects.
