I recently acquired a Sony PS-5x that was stored away in a tub with some other gear for who know how long. I brought it home and briefly wiped it down. To check the state of things I plugged it in and the tonearm started to move towards the platter and then back again then just keeps happening. I powered the unit off and tool a look at the controls. The size selector lever was broken. I found a replacement unit online that I will replace using the guidance of the service guide. However i do have additional questions that the servicing guide doesn't look to cover. Is there anything specific i should be looking at to get the buttons/control panel back in its proper place? And are there other items I should be looking at that would cause the tone arm to move in and out of the platter? It does seem like the Start/Stop and Repeat buttons stick a bit or don't want to pop back out easily. Which is why I looked at the control panel first.

Lastly this strange thing that sort of looked like a tonearm but isn't came with it. Anyone know what it is? LE-BO?

Does the Le-Bo have a brush at the end? Could be a record tracking record cleaner. Lots of different brands were made.
 
The record size selector needs to be set. It has an arm underneath that can break, repop replacements on the bay.

Be sure to do the longevity maintenance when you get the table up and running. The work might include degreasing the mechanism underneath before it works completely. The fill the plastic screw on the foot with epoxy and a chunk of metal, coat hanger so these won't break off. dshoaf made a list of them that I have repeated on occasion for these fine tables. A search will find it, Sony PS-X7 was what I probably talked about.
 
If it doesn't keep speed, then there is a procedure for it in the service manual. it's not complicated, but with time, they tend to lose quartz lock.
