Sony PS-X5 TT, Worth Fixing?

Hi, I've pulled my old college TT out of storage to record some of my old vinyl and find that my beloved Sony PS-X5 is making a clicking sound once the tonearm is lowered to the play position.

Is something like this worth trying to fix or should I be looking for a replacement?

Excellent table. Worth poking around and fixing- that's a nice piece of kit.

I have three here I've been tinkering with myself....
 
Yes, you should fix it. I love mine. I inherited it from my dad, and I use it everyday for several hours.

It sounds decent to my ears with a Grado Black cart. and is solid as a rock.

Is this a clicking sound that is transmitted into the audio signal chain or the actual turntable is clicking?
 
Sony PS-X5 Worth Fixing?

You bet it's worth fixing, probably something very minor or just a good cleaning due to not being used. The PS-X5 is one of the better vintage Sony TTs before everything went plastic cheap and down hill in the 1980s. Vinyl Engine has the repair manual for the PS-X6 which is very close except for the type of controls.
 
lots of linkages with the PS-X5...degunk things underneath and I bet you'll fix that clunking. Good luck! :thmbsp:
 
Okay, I'm encouraged! How does one go about 'degunking'? I've had the bottom cover off once, didn't see anything obvious i.e. chipped cog or something. Since I think it's related to the tonearm raising mechanism a little lube might be in order...but I don't want to start spraying WD-40 willy nilly. Any advice?

But I have no tonarm.
You can under tell to me. What tonarms I should buy. What. To use in a place with SONY TTS-8000?:dunno:
