Sony ps x555es arm not moving ?

I just purchased a defective ps x555es, however to my surprise it actually mostly works. The only thing that isn't working is the tonearm. I checked for hardened old grease and if the belt was ok but both are fine. I also checked the cables of the mechanism itself but those looked fine aswell. The motor isn't spinning even though it can freely move. when I press the start button it plays and the arm goes up but doesn't move. When I press the left button it stops spinning and the arm goes down again. Any ideas ?

Might be something not connecting in the control panel. Could just need a good cleaning. Mine needed a new belt because the old belt was actually too long, a manufacture defect.

@TrevorBarten , did you place a record on the platter first? Many of these Sonys have an optical sensor that looks for an LP on the platter, if there is none, many will not let the arm move into the play position.

Yep. Put a record on first. I note that people sell these off thinking they don't work when they simply need a record!

Yes obviously. Tunrs out the IC was defective just in a way that usually isn't the case. Sold it off months ago.
