It depends what you mean by tonearm shaft. If it’s everything from the pivot to the headshell, that also includes the Biotracer vertical motor and vertical position sensors inside the rectangular ‘box’ near the pivot, but if it’s everything between the front of the rectangular bit and the headshell socket, then it’s just the shaft.
While other models from those years were quite similar at the headshell end, they had longer shafts, because of the extra length involved with the PS-X600 Biotracer motors, so only a relatively short shaft was needed with the PS-X600. It may be possible to adapt a shaft from one of these models, since they use the same headshells (SH-94 or SH-151): PS-350, PS-454, PS-550, PS-FL1, PS-FL3, PS-FL5, PS-LX2, PS-LX22, PS-LX3, PS-LX33, PS-LX4, PS-LX5, PS-LX7, PS-T22, PS-T33, PS-X45 or PS-X55. However, bear in mind that they all have straight tonearm tubes, whereas the one on the PS-X600 (and PS-X500) uses a tapered tube, so adapting them may be slightly tricky.
One tonearm shaft (in fact the complete tonearm) which will definitely fit will be that from the PS-X500, since it’s a manual start, auto-lift version of the fully automatic PS-X600 – the tonearm itself is absolutely identical.
