Hi everyone, recently picked up a PS-x75 and am having issues with the tone arm swinging all the way across the record before reverting close to the beginning of the record and dropping the stylus. All of the control buttons seem to be working properly and I can move the tone arm and drop it manually with the control panel. When moving the tone arm manually it seems to have a pretty fast action so I have to push the buttons quickly to queue up in the correct place. Does anyone know if there are any common adjustments that can be done to tone down the velocity the tone arm moves? My local audio tech recently retired so I am on my own for now.

Don't be surprised if this Biotracer arm will need repair work. And it's servo, severely complicated electro-mechanical , parts difficult to find if not impossible, and many repair technicians would be intimidated at repairing one.

Check and make sure the stylus is still on the cantilever. Don't just feel it with your finger actually look at it.
I have a new cartridge coming in today so I will hook that up and see what happens. How does the stylus effect the movement of the tone arm before it is placed on the record?

if the arm is searching, it may either need an adjustment or have some bad solder joints on the PCB.
what ever you do, be really careful of static discharge. Wear a grounding strap if you go inside. That big chip mounted to teh PCB inside is long obsolete. If you wreck it your table will no longer function so be careful.
get the serv manual from vinyl engine. its a pretty complicated schematic.
I have worked on 5 of the 75s was able to save/get working 4 of them the 5th was beyond help, so became scrap.
but once you get the 75 working, its still one of the best tables out there.
just be sure whom ever you take it to, knows a bit about ESD grounding.

Sounds to me like its not seeing the pulses correctly. Arm position is measured using a set of photodetectors which must be adjusted very carefully to get the correct alternating pattern from them. The service manual is available online, but I seem to recall it's not a very clear scan. Fixing and adjusting one is a labor of love, but you will be rewarded with an excellent table!

The new cartridge did not solve the issue. I have noticed that as I use the turn table more the quick arm swings have become less frequent but still happen a majority of the time. I have reached out to multiple repair shops to see if they will service but nobody seems willing to dive into it.

Hey let's revive this 4 year old thread in case the issue was fixed or someone has a suggestion. I have a x75 and it does the same exact thing. I have cleaned the optical part underneath the tonearm and it still happens. It's a beautiful table and the 2nd one I've worked on in 15 years.
I have the same issue with my PS-X75. I have gotten used to the wild tone arm swings but it always lands correctly on the record start. Also the cue movements are to fast and I have to gently prese the forward and back buttons to control the movement. Auto return function at end of record play is also an issue as the tone arm swings quickly back to the rest area always banging into the tone arm latch. I’m always concerned that one day the tone arm will break the latch. There is a utube video by Miller Vintage Hi Fi where he attempts to fix this issue and replaces everything and makes adjustments with no fix.
Mine, fortunately, has been rock solid (knock on wood). Have you followed the adjustment procedure in the owner's manual precisely for setting it for your tracking weight, etc? Also, do you have a copy of the service manual?
