Sony PSX-65 bulb

Sony PS-X65 bulb

The "record size" bulb on my Sony PSX-65 has burnt out. The manual calls for a PL 501 (1-518-305-00) bulb. A google search gives me Fiat ( fix it again Tony) side marker bulb from Europe.

Has anybody else replaced this bulb? I would like to have the replacement bulb before taking the unit apart.

The table works fine but I'm worried my grandson could hit the start button and send my cart on to the rubber mat

I ran into some NOS lamps marked as being for Sony TT when I was going through a parts bin in the garage the other day... the one I found was a different rating than this though (found 4.5V/40mA w/wire harness, and the PS-X65 manual says this one is 8V/50mA). I'll take a look and see if there are any of the 1-518-305-00 in that bin.

Looks like our resident lamp expert dgwojo may have lamps that fit that rating, not sure about the form factor though. It looks like from the manual that this lamp is installed on the size detect board, have you had a look under the platter to see if you can get a look at the lamp physically?

The Shack doesn't do 8V... in that type lamp you can find 6V, maybe 6.3V, and 12 or 14V but not 8V.

I did not find any in my parts bins either.

Just send AK member dgwojo a PM, I'd be surprised if he can't supply something suitable. You can scroll thru some of his lamps here:

Glad you found some replacements. How about sharing where you found them for those of us that may need one in the future? Thanks.

Wow! Always thought that anyone who likes Harvey and uses a Sony X65 must be a good guy.:D Thanks LP! PM on the way. :thmbsp::thmbsp:

Question if the bulbs burns out does the turntable still work? I know the size of the record detector wouldn't work but would it still assume the size is a 12 inch? Thanks in advance I have a ps-600 and my does not detect the size but my light still works just wondering if I should be worried if the bulb burns out. I would also love to put a black light in replace of the original light bulb just to see if it would look cool. I know it may sound lame but I really think it be cool.
Thanks in advance :music:

If the bulb burns out it defaults to the 12" record. You can "trick" it to go to a 7" record by placing a flashlight where the lamp "tower" is and shining it towards the record so it hits the outer most sensor. I had a bulb go out and was troubleshooting the circuit.
