Hi,

Can you help me out with these speakers (Sony SS-60)? I have them for a while now but I can not find anything on them.
I am a vintage audio collector for quite some time but I never saw these. Maybe someone has a clue?

I had some email contact with InsideHiFi. They searched in the years 1965-1972 between the documentation available to them but could not find anything. Sony had in the catalog in 1965 SS-80 speakers, perhaps that is the right year. I think they are one of the first Sony speakers but hope to find some info on them.

Is there no info on these vintage/antique speakers at all? I think these are the very first Sony speakers ever and I'm a collector for 30 years now and I never saw these Sony speakers before and can not find them anywhere. Please help me with this, also Sony can not find info on these speakers. They said they are before the beginning of the Sony administration. I hope you can give some info on them :-)
 
I know it and thanks Botrytis, but i'am so long searching for some info on these speakers and I really think these are the first Sony speakers ever, my first Sony :)
They are in my storage for two years now and I can not find any info on them. Sony Japan can not give info on them either so I hope there is a person/collector or anyone who know something about them :)
Hope there is some info on these very old Sony speakers.
 
Give your post a little time, Joep. Somebody will be along within the next day or so who will have some information for you.

Considering the vinyl finish on them and their odd shape, I'm betting that they may have been part of a portable record player or tape deck. Are there any attachment brackets on them? Any screw holes where there may have been brackets at one time?

You may find some information by searching Sony's offerings in portable tape decks and record players of that era.

Thank you for your reply Gdmoore28! I think these speakers are too big to be part of a record player or tape deck. There are also no attachment brackets on them.
The dimensions are 44,5x38,5x24,5cm (17,5x15,2x9,7 inch). Hope anyone got some info on them.
 
Last night while scanning ebay I ran across a Sony reel-to-reel set that had speakers that were somewhat close to yours. I thought I'd stumbled across a perfect match, but they were a little different and had mounting brackets. Still yet, they were covered in textured plastic and oddly shaped just like yours.

Because of their shape and their plastic skins, I'm still convinced that they were a part of some sort of portable sound system. We'll find out eventually.

Thank you GeeDeeEmm! But they are so big(size wize) and there are no brackets at all. I think these are the very first solo Sony speakers ever. I had the SS-80's, they were part of a portable sound system. When you see the canvas and the material, you will acknowledge this. I have never/ever saw these, and they are to big to be mounting speakers.
