I'm back and need help. Trying to find the wood cabinet for a vintage Sony str6055. I'm sure with all the similar models in the 60XXs and 70XXs there has to be interchangeable cabinets to fit my 6055. Anybody have an idea because I'm clueless! AB

Thank you very much. Surprised that there are so many different types. All the info I could possibly ask for (I think). Appreciate. AB

I came across this link from another AK thread while searching early Sony STRs TAs etc. look for the case column. There are two for the 6055, one is a full box slip in case with a screen, one is the full wood 3 side case.

That's my table!

I no longer own an STR6055 but from personal experience, a case from a STR6065 and a STR6060 will fit. Also, I believe that the later STR7045 is an exact copy of the STR6055 so its case should also fit.

I had two STR6055's and really liked them. They are worth dressing up with a case.

Appreciate your response. Another member sent a thread with Sony spread sheet. It shows what case was used with what receiver. This was a nostalgia exercise for me. I purchased an STR6055 back when it was current in their lineup. Re-creating my old system. And no, I don't know why...best, AB

Hey thanks for the table! I just bought a STR 5800SD and it is on its way. I am very interested in the vintage Sony stuff and found a good deal (hopefully) on the 5800 and am very interested in the "Acoustic Compensation" 3 position loudness function switch.

I had a STR5800 and it was a nice sounding, solid receiver. Plenty of power and features and it was built like a tank. My son has it now and it has survived plenty of abuse.

I also had an STR6800 that I wish I hadn't sold.

I own a 6055 and it is working up in our museum playing whale sounds. It has been a great unit.

If you can't find one, make one...
Got tired of trying to find one, so I just cloned one using pictures from the internet and some scrap plywood and walnut veneer I had laying around. Wasn't too hard, but it helps to have a table saw with a good dado blade.

Must be nice to be a competent woodworker. I'm not. Finally found one off a 7055. Snagged it for $125, not a great price but it truly in M- condition. My 6055 finally found a home. It was a TAC 5N. In case anyone else is interested the are 2 on the bay in the UK for $211 plus $57 shipping. Wow. Glad I found mine when I did. And BTW the one you constructed looks fantastic! Thanks again, AB

I'll be honest - I would pay you to make one for me. My 6055 is naked, and I very much want to clothe it.
