Sony STR-7055 stereo lamp

Anyone have a source for and instruction on how to replace the stereo lamp in a STR-7055 receiver?

I picked up a very nice 7055 with wood case. All the lights work except the stereo lamp. I would like to replace but it seems like the bulb is pretty unique, and the way it is placed/installed is not common, at least to me.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi StuartB,

reading the STR-7055 Service Manual I see: PL905 8V, 30mA.

I've recently changed a similar lamp for the stereo indicator of my ST-5066.
It was a 4.2mm diameter bulb. I've replaced it with a 3mm one, just putting a bit of more glue into the rubber o-ring that was containing it.
On your STR SM drawings I see the same o-ring mount I have on my ST.

Thank you, Tuby.

To replace the bulb did you remove the rubber mount, or just remove the bulb from the mounting ring? I was trying to figure how to replace it gracefully.

In my tuner the ring was hooked to a U shaped part, so it was easy to remove it by pulling it up.

Here you can see an image coming from the SM of your STR:

Again, the ring seems to be hooked to the C/U shaped corner of the chassis part below.
Try to remove it by gently pulling it in the up/external direction.
Then separate the bulb from the ring, removing the glue.

I've used a bulb without pre-assembled cables, soldering it to the pre-existent cables and using a few mm of heat shrink tubing to isolate the pins.
