Sony STR 7065A (Dead Switch?)

I just recently picked up a Sony STR 7065A in immaculate condition. I was testing it at the sellers house and proceeded to flip the power switch. I noticed, what I describe as a glitchy start up - with the lamps flickering, fading in and out ever so slightly while the signal to the speakers was also very weak (while it was in this state). I was able to work him down due to this issue, as I was confident it was a capacitor or rectifier issue. He was kind enough to mention that his technician noted these type power switches have a tendency of going bad. Despite all this, I wasn't worried.

A few days pass and I have it on my bench. I pop the top and inspect for any burned spots or charred components and I find nothing to my surprise. I proceed to plug in the unit and I flip the switch and nothing happens. No flickering/fading and no shine from the lamps in the front. I then checked the voltages inside the amp from a few test points and there was nothing coming up on my DMM. So it seems to me the amp is not able to 'switch on' due to a faulty on/off switch mechanism.

Has anyone encountered such a problem? I'm sure finding another replacement switch is near impossible - yet is there a modification switch or a means of repairing the current one I have?

Jumper across the terminals on the switch and then use a power strip with a power switch on it. Then, monitor AK's Barter Town for a donor unit if you want to restore it.

i have in the past stripped power switches and carefully cleaned them ..this only really works if the contacts aren't burned/pitted . or the plating gone . abrasives are bad to them .
also found some switches to have spare terminals so then its possible to move the wires to them .
 
I have the STR-7065 and it has a funky control too. The switch portion seems ok but the volume (or balance, can't remember) cuts out in odd ways.
 
Well, I just confirmed it was a dead switch.

I removed the switch mechanism and looked into the bottom tap. As you can see, it was a bit charred/burned. So I cleaned it and tinned a fresh piece of the wire to it. I still got nothing - until I tried soldering the wire to the tap behind it. David, this works as you suggested (I'll be using a power outlet with a switch to turn it on and off). Other than this, the amp sounds really great! Looking into doing a full recap soon.
