Let me know how that one turns out. I was bidding on it as well, but e-bay server problems towards the end of the auction blocked me out. I think you got a really good deal with that price including shipping.

Should be pretty nice. Looks like you have plenty of amplifier power in your house based on your list of equipment. I am jealous. :)

It will be interesting to hear your comments about the Sony, especially in regard to a comparison with your 9600.
Nice buy.

Nice score ...got one of these Receivers the STR-V5 smaller than yours but still pretty big one it is...so its currently used by my brother sort of "storage for use" agreement ;)

When i got my STR-V5 it had been standing outside in pooring rain for two days!
One of my buddy's told me he had come by a Sony "i have seen a big! receiver didnt bother to collect it water all over and inside ...a Sony it was with 3 meter and two big heatsinks" ...details enough so i instantly went to rescue it :thmbsp:
First thing i noticed when i arrived to the scene was that the scale was filled with water :sigh: ....so first aid was made on the spot... off came the top and i manage to drain off the water from poor thing...at home the knops and front was instantly removed so i could access the scale and cleane it ;)
inside needed some drying and cleaning done in a hurry :scratch2: .
Good part was that the meter(s) ducktape had sealed the water from entering.
I let stand open in a sunny spot for a couple a days to lets it dry out 100%
First time i had power on, it didnt show any probs at all.... made electical inspection/messurement, adjuststed the BIAS/DC-offset and finalized with audioble test .....it was perfect even after been drowned :naughty:

Mecanical build like a tank. :thmbsp:
power-amp is very good and powerful...afir. rated 120W/8Ohm :)
pre-amp better then avarage
RIAA pretty boring in its sound :worried:
Tuner very! good sounding part :D

I would really like to see a front and a inside pic of your STR-V7 ;)

i was having server problems as well; and the bid somehow got through. i read some nice posts here, so i decided to try it out. of the ones i have, i really like the 9090. i am speaker challenged, so my opinion is based on the speakers i have.

sansui sp-2700A
infinity QB
pioneer 511A

based on these, i prefer the 9090. hopefully, this sony turns out good.

Thanks for the pic Pmik, I bought my STRV5 in germany in 1978. It was a great little reciever. I still regret leaving it there. I ended up trading it for a Kenwood KT-7550 tuner since I was going with seperates. The V-7 should be a lot meatier. :thmbsp:

Not bad, pretty decent power and heavy. I got the STR-V6 off ebay, local pickup for 26 bucks. To be honest, I wasn't all that impressed with it, it didn't "feel" all that well made. Just my opinion. Let us know how you like it!

Agree ...would like to see V-7 inside ;)

But while we maybe get V-7 pics ...ill have a few more V-5 pics ...nudie ones :naughty:

Ps. thx to the site from where i got them from :thmbsp: ...dont remember which one :sigh:

sorry guys, i do not have a camera. i bought it due to the posts that i have read here in AK. hopefully, it will be a keeper. i will put it up against my other recievers, see how it does. i did not think that it was a bad price considering the power it has. i am considering buying some jbl speakers, or some boston accoustic vr series.

The issues I have with my STR-V7 a minor but annoying. The most annoying is the stepped attenuator (i.e. volume control). The system gets real loud at 10:00, and the stupid thing starts at 8:00. The stepped intervals are like 3-5 db per click so it is hard to fine tune the volume... it's either too loud or too soft. Unlike Sony's earlier systyem, it does not have a -20dB muting switch.

The another annoying bit is the tuner display. The pointer is not illuminated and in a poorly lit environment, you just can't see it.

Lastly, the unit is HUGE... You can't put in too many shelves, and if you do, you gotta make sure it can handle the 50lb weight.

Bit of advice.. the wood panels are just veneered MDF. You should try and seal the non-finished edges as it tends to crumble from moisture as it ages.

thanx for the advice. maybe i will listen to it only when i feel like jamming out to some stones, c.c.r, or the like. i am making a stand for other items, so its weight is not an issue.
