SONY TA-1630 PROBLEM, same level sound through ALL INPUTS (AUX, PHONO and TUNER)

Hello everyone, and thanks in advance.

I have a Sony TA 1630 inherited from my father. the problem is the following:

Distorted sound comes out through the headphones and with the RCA cables connected to the AUX input there is the same sound level on all inputs when you turn the input selector.

I changed electrolytic capacitors (checked polarity), also changed transistors (also checked ECB orientation)

I am using a DBT and the bulb does what it is supposed to do but there is the problem I mentioned.

Any recommendations on where to look or what it could be?

Maybe I didn't explain myself well. The problem is with the cell phone in the AUX input if you turn the input selector wheel, you can hear the same thing in all of them and at the same volume.

Hello. First things I'd check, obviously, is the function selector and any hack work you could find inside, like wires jumping connectors, or solder bridges between pins at the function selector, tape-monitor switch, or input connections.

Was the problem present before your recap?

Is the sound distorted at the PRE or TAPE output if you send the signal to a second amplifier?
 
Hi elnaldo and thanks for answering. Yes, the distortion was already present and I thought that after doing the recap it could be solved.

What I didn't see at first was that the selector didn't stop the different inputs, I noticed that later.

The sound is distorted when it comes through the headphones.

I'm using the DBT and have only tried the headphones.

I will check the selector and get back to you.

Hi Thorsten R, here you ara some pictures of the selector amb some others of the PCB's. The selector seems in good shape to me, but six eyes ara better than two.

I Would like to say that I've replaced some transistors, in the tone I've used two 2sc1845 (q104/q204), and in the selector PCB i've replaced q102/q202 for 2sa992. I don't know if this may help or it's possible that those weren't the good replacements.

PD: how can i test the selector?

Hello, have you found a solution? I apparently have the same problem with this amp. Amp connected to auxiliary and when I turn the selector on tuner or phono I also heard a sound coming out even with the volume at minimum, very strange.... the selector does not look dirty or damaged, I sprayed it with cleaner no result
 
Hi, no, still not working. My selector is in good condition too. I hope someone will help us. If I found the solution I'm going to share it with all of you, of course.
 
So it sounds like cross talk- check that the earth/ground connections are correct.

Do you get the same effect from the tape out?
 
hello, and thank you for your answers, unfortunately for the moment I can no longer do any tests, this amp has a more serious failure at the power stage... I have unwanted voltages, I will perhaps open another subject , Have a good week!

Sorry I'm late to the party but this is a problem with all TA-1630s. There is a service bulletin to download on hifi engine for moving a cable inside. I've done it but frankly it made no difference on my amplifier. Perhaps it will on yours.
 
Hello, mine had more serious problems, but I would be curious to see what this bulletin says, I do not have access to Hifi engine, can you make a copy and paste of this ?

One little tip from though: Change the bias pots. They are awful. it's a very simple power section yet they blow quicker than I can say it. It's happened to me twice on two different 1630s. two 2.2K pots are needed.

Thanks to DatunWalnut and the service bulletin now the amplifier has no crosstalk anymore. I follow the istrucctions, fist option B (no change) and then option A, moving the grundig wire (30) to PCB works for me.

Now I'm getting distorted sound from both channels and there is no bias (0mv) on both channles. I replaced the drivers transistors with mje340g and mje350g. Maybe not good subs???

I'm glad it worked for you Joan. I think I'll have to revisit the issue as neither worked for me. May be I messed up. It's not unheard of .
Not sure about your transistors - I was lucky I had direct replacements.
I believe tip31c/tip32c (or tip41/42) should be ok.
If there's distortion the 2Sc1124 drivers should be looked at as well. They are notoriously awful especially with age. They can be replaced with 2sc2690 but pins 2+3 (collector and base) need to be swapped over with a bit of heat shrink for safety.

I'm just thinking: did the distortion only occur after you applied the service bulletin? In which case it could be a grounding issue. Is the grounding wire still attached to the chassis?
