Hi all. I have an older Sony TA-AV521 with a noisy potentiometer. It is a sealed unit, but I soaked it in cleaner, as well as sprayed it several times. I ended up taking it completely apart because it would not give me any volume on one channel even after moving it back and forth etc. So, here is my question. I was able to disassemble it, and reassemble it - the problem is, the module with the 16 pins in it 'may' be installed backwards because there are no marks to show if it should face one way or the other, and I installed it the way that looked the most like when I removed it. So, now knowing 100% I assume that I 'could' get full volume instead of no volume when I power on the receiver. I've contacted Sony, their 'tech support' partner and neither was able to offer any assistance. Basically, I was able to test it using pin 3 and 5 (the row closest to the motor in back, and going from left to right - pins 3 and 5 - as you look from the back of the motor toward the front of the pot, and when testing their resistance, the resistance value increases as I turn the knob to the right, which sounds backwards to me. I only tested 3 and 5 because according to the Sony service manual, pin 3 is ground, and pin 5 is output to the electronic volume (or so it seems). Is anyone familiar with these types of pots and if so, can you give me some tips for testing so I do not have to re-solder this guy back in just to test it? Also, is it possible to get a replacement pot that would replace this one from say AliExpress or something? On the pot it is labled: 241-816-11 and 240M-100K 15AX4. Any help would be great as I have been working on getting the pot functioning correctly for a couple of days now. Thank you all in advance
