I was able to buy this recently. I had no idea Sony ever made anything like it. It's beautiful and has no performance issues. I'm running it from the bass boost outputs into my bastardized Nikko Alpha 450 and I'm very pleased with the sound. The AU-717 is doing closet duty now.
Anyways, when I opened it up to replace the power indicator lamp I noticed a few caps with shrunken sleeves and about 30 blue tantalums. I'm considering doing some preventative maintenance but don't want to adversely effect the sound. I'd like to use Nichicon UKLs to replace the tantalums and Elna Simlic IIs for everything else as long as they'll fit. I'm not nearly smart enough to identify the signal path capacitors so I'd like to keep things simple and go with one type, even though it's going to cost me a bit more.
Someone please chime in if I'm making a bad choice.
