So I just scored a Sony TA-F45 integrated amplifier from a Craigslist ad. Paid $100 for it, so it's not really a score but this unit is in splendid condition. Clean clean clean, nary a scratch, no discoloration. Looks to have lived in a non smoking home its entire 34 year life. Works, has a couple of issues.
The Aux indicator lamp is burned out. Easy enough to obtain a replacement and I've heard these are simple to change.
The unit does not remember the last input setting if it has been turned off more than a minute or so. Minor annoyance, but Ideas?
The sound quality is pretty good, but I have noticed it lacks high-end. There's a serious rise in the mid-highs (with tone controls flat and Loudness off). Also, lows sound a bit "boxy", again a rise around 300-400hz and rolls off below that. A re-cap is in this amp's near future.
The top and bottom covers are both removable and this unit looks to be easy to work on. I also was able to get a pdf of the service manual.
