Sony TA-N77ES restore

I am about to take possession of a Sony TA-N77ES, the multi voltage version, in a few days, and I have been trying to read up on it.
In general my philosophy is to leave as much as original as possible, and hence I won't upgrade it, but rather keep as much stock as possible and only change the stuff that really needs it.

I can see I should inspect the four/six big 4700uF/80wV capacitors (C315,16,18,29) and replace the two trimpots (RT701,751) for the meters, and work out some solution to change the meter lights to LEDs that is in the same color and brightness as the bulbs.

What else should I check/replace?

Bias and offset trimpots?
Is it difficult to adjust bias and offset on this amp?

Welcome to AK.

I have several of these amplifiers and can help you with anything to do with restoration of these magnificent beasts.

If I were you, I would seek out conventional incandescents for the meters, there is no LED solution that looks good due to a variety of factors. The trimpots are fine, there is no need to mess with them. The VA stage caps on the vertical driver board will also be fine- discount any 'bulging' of the top caps, it is not an indication of venting unless you remove one and check the expansion vent and it is leaking. I have never seen a 77es or 80es with leaking 4700uF VA stage caps.

The main potted caps (in the front to back plastic 'audio capacitor' case will last for decades and should not be touched unless you want to change for changes sake.

My two here are 100% original and I have another two which have had minor repairs to bring them back to spec.

You have the multivoltage version, which is better (see my quote on TVK).

Ask any questions here. Cheers.

Thanks - So that is you who's the source for that quote on TVK.

I don't really want to change stuff just to change it and I want to keep it as original as possible. So what you're basically saying, is that if the amp works as it should, and checks out on visual inspection, then I should leave it alone and stock up on the incandescents?

Thats easy

_compra de transistor (por error hice un corto en la entrada RCA al conectar el anterior Sony ta e77es ) toco positivo con masa se escuchó un garraspeo y se desconecto el Sony ta n77es

John, 8-years later do you still stand by this? Any need to tinker with a N77ES if it's working fine?
