Sony ta-n80es bias adjustment advice.

I just bought a 80es set for personal use and I am running a few checks on the amps to make sure they are ok. The bias adjustment in the service manual calls for 15mv per channel when turned on for 5 minutes. However I assume the bias will keep climbing for another 30 minutes or so. Is it expected that this number increases from the set 15mv or should I wait for it to be fully warmed up and set it at 15mv per channel? Thanks!

It is because of poor thermal tracking, chagne thermal grease

I would follow the recommended procedure and then leave the power on for about 30 minutes and monitor it from time to time. If it remains reasonably stable (say within a few mV), you are done. If it drifts dramatically, then you may have some searching to do to find out why. Bear in mind that ambient temperature does have a part to play in this, but the amp should have thermal compensation anyway.

With some amps it takes longer to stabilize. Adjust it and run it until it stops changing, adjusting as you go.
