Sony TC-200 Reel To Reel Concerns - HELP

I just purchased a Sony TC-200 Reel to Reel. It is in great shape however it didnt come with the speakers. There is actually a speaker built into the unit itself. I powered it up and it seemed fine however it has a slight smell to it...I'm not sure if its just because it hasnt been used for a while or if there is an issue. I used it for about an hour with no issues of it catching fire, smoking, or anything, so I THINK it may be ok in that regard. It is very noisy....The machine powers up and its kinda of noisy, but not horrible. But once I start running a tape through it, it's just very loud. What can I do to make sure this thing is safe AND quieter?

Also, channel one audio doesnt come thru as loud as channel two.

I am completely unfamiliar with this unit but you should get schematics and manusl from hifiengine.com. You'll need to register but it's free.
Then, this would give you more idea about lubrication and basic maintenance of the unit.
Replacing belts and renewing rubber pinch roller might be needed and perhaps to recap as well...
As for smell, seems like it's not burning so it could be layers of dust in electronics components getting up to operational temps.

Awesome, thanks TR6man98. I appreciate the feedback. After days of using it, it hasn't caused any fires (lol) so I think I'm good. I have yet to open her up and do a good cleaning/lubing. I will refer to the manual/schematics
and get to work out that. As to a recap, I'm afraid my soldering skills are next to nothing at the moment so if the caps need replaced, it may be off to the repair tech she goes.
