Sony TC-366 speed problem

Hey!

I need some help with fixing my Sony TC-366 reel to reel machine.

It works perfectly fine at 1 7/8 & 3 3/4 IPS but won't play at 7 1/2 IPS anymore.
I opened the deck and can see that the idler wheel won't turn at 7 1/2 IPS. I tried pushing it up a little bit with a screwdriver which makes it turn but stops immediately after releasing the pressure. Any ideas?
(It had this problem when I got the machine but disapeared after using it for a while. After I did some recording today it wouldn't playback anymore at 7 1/2 IPS at all)

OK thanks a lot, I will change the capacitor to begin with. Weird thing is it works perfectly fine at the other speeds...

How "free" or "easy" is the flywheel supposed to spin? (Just took off the front and tried to spin it by hand, seems a bit heavy-going imo, maybe that's part of the problem?)

I changed the spring to a little bit stronger one and now it runs as it should. Hope this won't have any bad effect on the idler though....

Worst case scenario, you can get it re-rubberized by Terry's rubber rollers for 40ish bucks. Unless the your idler gets gooey, or cracks, don't worry about it. A new capacitor would be a good, cheap investment in the near future.
 
Resurrection of an old thread. Does anybody have a picture of the spring that should be replaced by one with more pull to it? Thanks!
