Heyo, I was told this was the right place to go with this, since nobody nowhere else could really help.
Helped gramps move out, took his big storage of audio tapes and tons of metal blank tapes. Needed a machine.
So, after surfing the local ads for a while, this TC-K315 tape deck popped up and since it was near by, I went and picked it up. Obviously, did a test listen to a few tapes on it before buying, everything seemed fine, the guy said that the belts had turned into goo, so he replaced them and did a service/lubed everything, he seemed like an audiohead as well and looked like he knows this and that.
Long story short, my excitement quite quickly (or slowly?) got ruined when I got home, I started listening to a few of my tapes (genuine, new ones) firstly they seemed to sound brilliant, after some time I started to notice that something is off, some songs sounded slower than they were supposed to. After some more listening they seemed to sound REALLY slow. And the speed seemed to lower gradually, not jump around like if the belt was slipping, but just gradually slow down. After turning off the machine for an hour and then coming back, it seemed like it had gone back almost to normal, slightly slower.
I recorded a full tape from a CD on the machine, basically, when played back on the machine the first song or two will sound normal but if you skip to the end of the tape and play it back, it will sound like it's Nightcore or whatever, really fast. If I put the tape in my car, it will just all be too fast and get even faster near the end.
Basically, there is something that causes the machine to slow down gradually over time, usually after 1-3 songs of playback, but even during those first songs it's still a tad bit too slow, just not that substancially.
I wanted to adjust the speed, but it has 2 speed adjustment screws, didn't touch them, was scared, maybe due to the 2 motor transport mechanism?
Also, the cassette often comes out of it slightly unwound like this
It seems to especially hate the metal tapes, because it chews them up like this and then they are almost unplayable
