Sony TC-K707ES 3 head cassette Deck - intermittent problem

i recently found a Sony K707ES deck at the thrift. I will need to get a belt kit for it, but I’m using a rubber band for the Capstan motor. The only thing is the door doesn’t always open. When that happens, I can hear it trying and it tries for longer than if the door opens. I don’t think it had this problem before I opened it up, so I’m wondering if I introduced it, or is it related to using a rubber band on the capstan, or what? I’m puzzled. I’ve opened it up a few times to try to figure out why this is happening, but I frankly just have no idea.

Any ideas?

I don't think you are the culprit or the problem is caused by yourself. Keep calm and wait for someone to provide an explanation for the door refusing opening; SONY decks are really tricky indeed!

That’s for sure! Some of it is easy, like changing the belt, but I’ve tried to see what it is doing when it opens the door, and it is covered up so I have no idea.

Not to worry though. I’ve put it back on the shelf pending new information or a new idea. Hmmm, I think I’ll check to see if there are any YouTube videos on this deck!

Well, I’m starting to think I need to replace the mode belt as well as the CAM belt. It seems like there are some gears that can move out of alignment if the belt breaks. I don’t think mine has yet. So I’ll need to order a belt kit.

That will take some time as I need to put together a decent sized order to pay the broker fees.
