sony tc-k71 repair loose parts

I recently picked up a sony tc-k71.

The belt and motor run fine because I can manually adjust the main wheel left and right and it drives fine. The problem I see is it doesn't engage into chamber up or engage into play. Also the main wheel that alters from left to right doesn't move also.

The parts in the photos were loose when i opened deck. Any suggestions would help


I Apologize for the terrible way of explaining the problem i am a novice when it comes to tape players.

I picked this up for 10 dollars and figured I'd give it a shot and repair it.

I posted pictures on the loose parts.

The 2 plastic pieces I think are from the door where you drop the cassette in they would stabilize the cassette holding it firm.
The metal piece is going to be a problem for you. Its goes behind the head and extends up and keys into that metal slotted piece between the reels.
This is a common issue with the Sony TC K61,71 and 81. There is a blue plastic bridge shaped under the heads that has broken that holds down the metal piece. Look around for a small ball bearing inside there as it goes under that metal piece and sits in that slot with the grease you see just behind the head.
On the Tapeheads forum there is lots of discussion on this issue and its repair.
