Sony Vegas 14 audio trouble

Hi I have a question:

What is the best audio quality for Vegas 14? I used an output of 48,000hz and 16 bit, using apple earphones, but when I play it through any computer system, it just sounds off and low quality. The project files range from different type of quality and different type of audio files.

1. What render settings should I use when I render both audio and video if I used the ones above to edit it?
2. Should I render audio only(because it has more options for quality than rendering video and audio at the same time) and then add it to the project?

Hopefully someone has some idea to fix this, thanks.

Hi POJ,

You need to know that Audio Karma is a forum for audio listening enthusiasts. Very few of us here have experience on the production side. That's why you haven't gotten any responses--because we aren't familiar with what you are trying to do. I would recommend the forum "Gear Slutz", as they seem to be the go-to forum for production related questions. At least it would be a good starting place.

A couple general suggestions:
1. Remember that you will only get out what you put in. So if the audio quality you are starting with is poor, then even the highest output bitrate possible will not make it sound "better".
2. Good monitoring speakers can reveal many things to you that simply listening over computer speakers or earbuds can not. There are some great low-cost (<$500) powered monitors out there, that accept a direct digital connection to your computer. I would highly recommend investing in good monitors.
