Sound Blaster dropout and stuttering problem Fixed, and I am pissed

I finally, finally, fixed the dropout and stuttering problem. :grumpy: It turns out it was not the sound card, it wasn't my computer, it wasn't even Windows 8. It was Malwarebytes Anti-Virus Pro. Thanks to DPC Latentcy Checker I knew I had a severe latentcy issue. I thought it was my old computer. I had another issue with MWBS so I checked in at their support forum and there I found a massive flame war going between MWBS people and professional computer tech people. I seems MWBS in a major upgrade in February redid their malicious site filter and loaded it with a massive new database. This interested me because this was about the time I started to have trouble. It turns out these tech's who installed MWBS on computers they had built, and serviced for their customers that still had XP installed where now locking up after this upgrade. The support staff at MWBS where complete "A" holes. The tech's discovered that shutting off the site filter fixed the problem. MWBS attitude was, saying it nicely, was not forth coming. I went to the settings switched off the site filter and it was like turning off a noisy vacuum cleaner. The DPC Latency graph instantly dropped into the green region and the dropouts and stutter are gone. Now I can hear just how good the SB Recon3D PCie is, and it is a vast improvement over earlier SB cards. Even after 40 plus years of dealing with computers I get surprised. Having software support that is not forth coming with problems.... :gigglemad

You know, you can run Linux and just not have those kinds of problems. Glad you fixed it, however.

I am being held hostage by mostly Apple and iTunes. I really think I am going to do what a number of my friends have done they get that nifty little Apple Mac Mini and use it mostly to run iTunes on the latest version has a 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 (Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz) can be configured with up to 16 gigs of DDR3 ram, and a 1 T-byte hard drive all in a package that looks like an external HD. It is perfect for a music room because they are silent during operation, no cooling fan powered noise pollution.

If Malwarebytes had only come out and said hey we have a problem with the new site filter here is the temporary fix please bare with us we are working on it, but that isn't what they did. I am going to dump MWBS in favor of Microtrend I have used it in the past and it is very good and the latest version comes with up to 50 gigs cloud storage. Microtrend is interesting because they where the first antivirus provider that used push notifications and updates back in the 1990's which at the time was a real holycow!!!

I use a Mac Pro and a MacBook Pro as my iToons players and I don't use any Virus software. I use the UNIX firewall and the routers firewall to keep suspicious stuff away. I have have very few problems except with an iToons update in 2011 that ruined my database and all 300+ of my play lists (where I sort the genres of music etc). I understand the audio in the Apple products is mostly Harmon-Kardon. Whatever it is, is sounds OK to me.

I have a Windows netbook that I use for iTunes and then only to sync my old iPod; as you say, it holds us hostage. However, I basically only use it for that and this, surfing the web. Everything else is done on Linux, which is what my six-core AMD is for.

The point is wiggy - when people state you don't have those issues with some OS or other, the point it you can. No OS is safe and I have a Linux box also and some of the software makes it crawl. So no OS is safe from it.

With Linux being big in servers, there is plenty of wurms, malware that can infect them.

I once again sincerely apologize for my errant behavior and whatever whatever. I only work with Linux for a living, I have no real knowledge of it.

Linus has it's own set of issues, problems, and driver related setbacks. Does Creative even have Linux drivers for this particular soundcard? Does the media player he's using also have Linux support? And so forth, and so forth.

Every OS has it's share of problems, and no one can say one is better than another any more than one can say "Your Dodge truck sucks. You should have gotten a Ford instead". Really? You know what I needed? You can really make those choices for me? Can you handle my finances too? :thumbsdn:

The guy already has an OS, a PC, and a soundcard, and he found a fix to his problem and is sharing it with us.

BTW, I've never been held hostage by Windows. Quite the opposite. I've tried Apple, Linux, Windows, and other OS versions, and by far (and I mean leaps and bounds) Windows is the OS of freedom. No ecosystem to be tied to, the most complete support of periphials, and the most widely accepted hardware base. I still have a few Apple PC's around here. I gave them to my wife and kids. As for my 3 Linux boxes? Hmmm somewhere in the garage taking up space because I always came back to Windows. But that's just because I knew what "I" wanted and needed.

He's back!!! God it's been boring around here. Except for the bacon! Welcome
back!

I don't run anti virus software on the PC I used to use for recording vinyl onto CD. I also disabled most of Windows processes. Of course, it's not connected to the big wide world.

Lee.

FWIW I don't run antivirus software on any of my windows computers. Never have. Don't have windows firewall on either. I'm behind a router with its own firewall. Never gotten a virus either. I pare down to the bare minimum services running, I know exactly how many should be running and what they are. I don't open emails I'm not expecting and I don't click on links to websites that don't feel right. Works for me.

Windows 8 has security essentials built in, and as a manager of Engineering for a large company with thousands of desktops and 800 servers, I have had a 100% positive experience with it. I run Linux, and was an Apple user since my old 2C. I have now sold ALL of my Apple computers, tablets, devices and phones. I'm done with them.

Win 8 will run fine without adding all of that overhead.

Malwarebytes Pro is a hang over (what a great choice of words) from the XP-Pro OS I up graded from and I know I have windows defender installed. One of the very irritating thing MWBS does is they post new virus definitions as much as 4 or 5 times a day that in its self is not a problem except it starts a new system scan each time and there is no way to control it, and it will not run in the background it has to proclaim "Ta-da" I'm working. Microtrend is a very interesting they have.......GRRRRR!!!!!! Malwarebytes Pro is gone for the 5th time today it pooped a splash screen all over the top of what I was typing to proclaim it was scanning my system that's it out of here. I loaded Microtrend and it does so much more plus I have 25 gigs of cloud storage.

Incidentally I am one of those people that actually likes windows 8. Here is a hardware tip that will make W8 so much nicer to use get a Logitech T650 Touchpad. what it does is give you much of the functioning of a touch screen without having one, pinching, boogering, rubberbanding, swiping, etc. all with your fingers on this super responsive pad.

I got a trojan virus from the county website, MSE caught it and cleaned it. Tried the same site two more times just to check, yep same thing. You never know anymore who's been hacked.

wasnt the prob due to an anti-malware program update and not actual malware?

Well technically you are correct but I had other issues with it, as I mentioned above. The inability to schedule scanning times, scanning with each update those coming in several times a day, and the splash screen over the top every time it started with no controls there either it was irksome.

I installed Micro Trend in it's place. total control of everything it even has a security scanner for Facebook which among other thing keeps tabs on your privacy settings and alerts you if Facebook is playing with them. Plus I have 25 gig's of Cloud storage. :thmbsp:

They have a excellent online scanner PC-cillin. Years ago they had a virus get into the computers at the VA I work at. At the time I was a medical clerk the IRM people looked like the 3 stooges doing the door gag. After several hour they finally made it up on the ward. They were stunned everyone was doing their work on fully functional computers. While IRM was running around I just went to each computer and used PC-cillin to scan and remove the virus I had everything up and running in about 30 min's.

If you have an older iPod jRiver, and Winamp Pro are two players I know will syn and older iPods, Plus you can load Rockbox which is a alternative OS that will work on older iPods, Nano's etc. it enables Ogg Vorbis, APE, etc. Your iPod becomes a dual boot device that you can toggle between the original OS, and Rockbox. You can use it on the Sansa, iRiver, etc. I would love to use it on my iPod Touch but they never were able to build a version that would work. Every once and awhile I pull out my old Sansa player it has Rockbox loaded, I am not exaggerating when I say the graphic equalization suit it has is like a studio mixing board. Oh yes and it is freeware.

debian only, on all my computers. I've been Microsoft free since 2000. CyanogenMod 10.1 on all my android devices.

I've never liked Mac's user interface. I've also never been hacked, or r00ted with linux.
I don't run an antivirus, but I do check regularly for malware and have good firewalls & various other security methods.

the new sound blasters have issues with linux simply because they are propietary and no specs have been released nor drivers.
OH and my ipods are both hacked and run linux.
I'm glad you figured out what was causing your I/O bog, Transmaster!
I'd be pissed off also. Why these companies don't realize admitting the truth will only help vs covering it up and stonewalling I'll never know.

I have a second-gen iPod Touch. Can't upgrade it to the latest iOS, can't update any of my apps anymore, but I do sync it to get my podcasts and my movies / music from my ripped sources. Nothing works except iTunes and iTunes does not work correctly under anything but Mac and Windows. It 'kind of' works under Windows in a virtual box inside Linux, but not quite, and sometimes bombs the iPod and bricks it until I reload everything. So I keep a Windows netbook just for that, nothing else.

Oh wait, I forgot. Woofer Tester 3. Can't run that on Linux either. So that too.

Other than that, I have zero use for Windows. Period.

But as I said, I know nothing, I only run Linux for my job on the biggest damned servers you ever heard of. So I do not claim to know anything.
