Sound Code Systems Power Amplifier

I am trying to find out what might be wrong with my SCS power amplifier. When I hook up test speaker to left or right channel, the speaker flexes like full power has been put to it. And it holds in that flex position like it's getting continuous power. The guy I purchased the amp from said it worked great. Any thoughts?

I had something similar happen. The woofers were pulsing in & out. I tried another pair of speakers and it was fine. It's just that one pair that does it with a Sansui 4000 receiver. :scratch2: Try another pair.
 
I wouldn't try another pair unless they are cheapees that you don't mind destroying. Your amplifier is putting out DC voltage, which drives the speaker to the limits. If the amplifier was putting out the rail voltage, as a lot of failures do, your speaker will most likely be fried. Test the output voltage according to echowars sticky labeled Amplifier Distortion, DC-Offset, and You!, which is the first sticky under the Vintage Solid State Forum.

I have a 2450a and a 2600a.
If you search Sound Code Systems you will find some detailed post of mine.
I can tell you the outputs for these are not pleasant to find.
And they MUST be gain matched.
Being that there is no protection between the outputs and the speakers, most likely outputs are shorted or you have a bad rectifier. In that case the outputs could already be damaged.
A matched set for a 2350a is going for about $60.00 used. And that is just for one side of one channel.
What did you pay for this?
What model is it?
I have schematics for some.
The circuitry is the same from the 2150 to the 2600 but rail voltage is different and number of outputs.
The driver boards are identical for the 2350, 2450 and 2600. The output and driver boards are integrated in the 2150.
If you don't intend on pursuing restoring this I'm looking for a donor case and transformer from a 2450 or 2600 for another project.

Hi, I realize this is a long shot, but I just purchased a sound code systems 2350 amp and I saw that you have some schematics for this brand? If you happen to have anything for this amp, I'd be mighty grateful if you could take the time to send it to me. Thanks, Mike
 
If it is dc coupled and a source with BC bias is plugged into the input, it will do that. Measure the output dc with a dmm, no speakers or input connected.
 
If dc is present as above, the amp needs to be checked by a tech.
I had some SCS lit somewhere in here but can't find it, basic schematic.
