I thought I’d share this for my first post on here. It’s a soundcraftsmen 3030 tri channel receiver. Can’t find any info on it. I’ve seen the 3030 amplifier but never a receiver. I’m a soundcraftsmen nerd if you couldn’t tell by the equalizer, so I jumped all over this when it popped up on eBay. It had a shorted capacitor so I replaced all the electrolytics and replaced the ceramic coupling caps with some Russian pio caps I had from an other project. It uses an odd rectifying system with 2 diodes fully rectifying one leg of the output and the other leg goes through a 150mf capacitor to ground. Still trying to figure that one out.
I cleaned it up as best I could without taking the original markings off especially on the glass display which looks like it was hand painted. I removed the transformers to paint them since they had a nice coating of surface rust. I’m guessing Eric engineering had a hand in this since they were close with soundcraftsmen.
It sounds incredible through the Westinghouse 6BM8 output tubes. Instead of balance it uses a gain control for each channel and individual bass and treble controls. I think the coolest part is the mono/stereo mixer. Standing between the speakers and playing with it sounds like it moves the sound to the center and back out. It has amazing channel separation. Fm reception is great and I have a rare soundcraftsmen MPX adapter coming in from eBay too to go with it. The MPX adapter was made by Eric engineering which also makes me think they made this receiver too. Not sure if I’m ready to replace my fisher x-100 yet but it’s a close race. (Yes I mow the fisher is sitting on my turntable, don’t judge me it was only temporary!)
