Soundesign Model 5127

Hello Everyone,
I gor this Soundesign Model 5127 Receiver for my garage.I know this is not a good gear but, enough for what I need. My question is if can I hook up a turntable on it? FM/AM looks good. I connected a turntable in the imputs available (tryed all 3) but, no results (just a very very low response)...I guess this has no pre amp ? hopefully more experience folks can put some lights on this doubt (refer to the pics).

Yeah, you'll need a separate phono preamp to use a regular turntable. That input is marked phono/aux which is a dead giveaway.

Also, those inputs are labeled as 300mV input which are simply line level inputs.

You're typical magnetic cartridge is usually somewhere between 2 to 5mv. There are exceptions.

Would the "phono" input work with a ceramic cartridge? That might be a stupid question but maybe I'll learn something.
I'm thinking that may have been what the manuf. intended to be used with that unit?

I agree, the easiest way for the OP to make it work is by using an external phono preamp.

Back in the day, there was probably a BSR-sourced turntable with a ceramic "flip-over-needle" cartridge offered with this receiver. If @francisleo75 needs to use a modern magnetic cartridge, he'll need an additional phono preamp as others have said. That little "Pyle" branded one comes to mind and is pretty inexpensive on Amazon.

That's what I was thinking.
My confusion is whether the output of the ceramic is higher than a magnetic, making the ceramic usable with the OP's unit as a direct plug in.

Yes or at least that was the case with the turntable that came with the Soundesign stereo I had when I was fourteen.
