Source for knobs

If anyone knows of where to get some replacement knobs... the distributors need a minimum order of 100 pieces which is not practical for us hobbyists. Looking for simple knurled aluminum knobs(tone controls, power/speaker selector, input selector,volume).... specifically for the Kenwood KR-4070 but will use more generic ones.

Thanks!

What size and what size shaft? I get them cheap when my surplus store has them around.

Also try:

Fry's eletronics on line?
PE, use hte link at the bottom of the page and support AK
Mouser electronics

Google Alco, they are big in aluminum knobs

I'll try those sources but I've been finding that most of those places deal in large quantities... I only need 5 of them... or 6 if I replace all but the tuning cap(so they match). I only have the Tuning and Input selector.

Input Selector, Volume and Power/Speaker selector are around 1" or (.95") Diameter

Treble, Bass, Balance knobs are slightly smaller at about .75"-.8" I think. diameter

Depth for them are about .7"

Shaft diameter would be the standard .25" size.

You got any like that? If they're non-original... I'd try to replace all 6 to get a good match.... otherwise just 5.

Thanks!!

4070s come up for sale on e bay pretty often and they go cheap. I have about $30 in each of mine after shipping. If a nasty broken one comes along it should go for nothing.

OK... I finally got a few from a local electronics shop. They had 2 boxes of misc old knobs taken from all types of electronics. I was lucky enough (thru digging for about 15 minutes) to find a few that looked similar. I also found a few that are probably from Yamaha receivers or the like(long thin rectangular knobs instead of round ones) which I can use for the selectors. For 50cent each, I was satisfied... can't wait to put these on and finally having a complete KR-4070...:)

I don't think I'll be so hasteful to buy another piece missing so many knobs in the future. It's quite difficult to get a good match... I could pay for another used/broken receiver but the cost and shipping would negate the point of getting any 'deal' in the first place.

Thanks for all your help!!

Just wanted to post pic of my KR-4070 with the new knobs... I'm satisfied as they are no longer bare-looking :naughty:

Non-original knobs:
Power/Speaker selector
Bass & Treble (found a matching pair)
Balance (almost the same as the Bass/Treble ones)
Input Selector (same as Power/Speaker one)

Above it is my recent Hitachi SR-6010 score.
