I’ve run into a snag on a restoration and need the greater AK wisdom.

Four of the twelve front panel indicator and meter lamps for a vintage solid state receiver are dead. That’s normally fine as I have many grain of wheat bulbs and similar. That said, they don’t fit this application well.

The original lamps, upper right in the photo, are just barely smaller than 1/4in in diameter. Instead of being 0.25in, they are 0.22in. And they are 10V.

The JKL 2178 grain of wheat lamps I have, lower left in photo, are too skinny to fit on their own, so I need a base of some kind to fit them in and stay put. These 2178 lamps are also 8V, which is good as they will burn brighter, but bad as they won’t last as long.

I’ve looked in all my usual places for 0.22in diameter 10V lamps, preferably with proper leads already, but I’m coming up with zero.

Where should I be looking, AK? Help me find these buggers.

I can always lower the voltage with a resistor or I could convert the whole lot to LED. That’s Plan D and Plan E. I’m hoping you all can help me make Plan C (finding good source) work. Don’t ask me about Plan A or Plan B; they did not go well.

Thanks,
Doug

I use shrink tubing to "fatten" bulbs up to fit. Sometimes 2 layers are needed. Then of course resistor it down a bit so they last longer.

Excellent idea!
