Southern Rock?

I don't know how popular it is in other parts of the country, but here it's always been a healthy percentage of what's played and I've always loved it. Oh yeah, and it's also good that the singers sound normal and don't have an accent like so many other bands you hear.

Skynrd Lives On!

I'm a big Skynrd fan too. If it's Rock-n-Roll, especially Southern Rock, sign me up.

Check out the "God and Guns" album. At first, I wasn't that impressed, but it has grown on me quite a bit. the "deluxe" version comes with two live tracks: Simple Man and Sweet Home. Very nice!

I remember LS opening for the Who in December of '73 at the Capitol Center in MD. They played "Free Bird" & no one knew the song!!

Digging up some fond So Rock memories!

Stumbled across this thread, and got to thinking about some fun Southern Rock concerts (with interesting lineups!):

1978-1979 - Champagne Jam at Georgia Tech - ARS headlined each year, with great acts (Aerosmith, Doobie Brothers, Santana, Mothers' Finest)

1980 - Clemson SC, Marshall Tucker Band, Dixie Dregs, Grinderswitch

1982 - Fox Theater, Atlanta - Blackfoot opening for Ted Nugent (loudest concert I have ever been to - supporting Scream Dream album, swung down to stage in a loincloth!)

I went to the opening event at the Superdome in New Orleans in Fall 1975 (or thereabouts). It featured Wet Willie, Charlie Daniels, Marshall Tucker Band and the Allman Brothers (without Duane, of course). Wet Willie was perhaps the most entertaining of the bunch.

I have the latest DVD of ARS. It is really good. The new lead singer who replaced Ronnie Hammond does a really good job. I was lucky enough to see them in '81 at Delta State University. They put on a kick ass show. I would absolutely see them again.
