Spam through an AK "Conversation" email.

Help!

I just received 2 different Audiokarma (from grumpy@audiokarma.org) "Conversation" emails to my PC Mircrosoft account, that look like spam. Both are from member "dangtinkk9x". Both are titled "Chao ban StimpyWan" and contain the following link (which I didn't open, or would I advise any one else to open).

Điều trị viêm gan A Bệnh viêm gan B Bệnh Viêm Gan C Roi Điẹn Uy Tín Tri thức hiện đại

Which points to this:http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?conversations/chào-bạn-stimpywan.866149/unread

I searched for member "dangtinkk9x" within AK and didn't get a match. I also looked at my AK Conversations, and these emails didn't show!?! I even tried the "View This Conversation" email link, to AK, and that didn't open these Conversations through AK. So, what gives, since my PC tested clean, has AK been hacked? Should I forward the email to an AK Moderator?

Thanks!

I got the same - I think this person fired off a couple of abusive messages before he got zapped, the account is history now. I reported the account or the post he/she made, and left a profile post (or a forum post - can't remember), with the message "Reported" because of a spam link in the profile.

I would be slightly interested to know what the text means, but I don't really care, it's probably abuse :)

I think you are ok.

Thanks!

That's good to know. I like to be PC/Internet safe. But, I wanted to report a potential AK virus too. I don't want the servers crashing!

Later.

No telling what you'd catch if you followed the original link.

That's your payback for replying to spam posts rather than just clicking the "report" link.

Hey,

Where's the "report" link? Something only on AK? If it is, it wouldn't apply in my instance, as the email I reported, was through my personal home email. It didn't come through AK, only that it came from AK.

Thanks.

Vietnamese!?! Vietnam is a pretty country, but I definitely don't want to catch something!

You need to check your account Contact Information to see if you have checked "Receive email when a new conversation message is received". Those messages are addressed from Grumpy and sent to the email address you have in the contact information. So, if you have that option checked and a spammer starts a conversation/PM with you, you will get a notice addressed from Grumpy.

If the spammer has been erased, so too probably is the conversation (from your AK Inbox) that generated the email.

The Report link is at the very bottom of every post, just left of center.

Thanks for that. My contact info looks correct, so I'm good there. And like I thought, the "Report" link is an AK feature, and only works here. It's a shame that "Conversation" emails, sent to your home inbox, don't have a "Report" feature as well. Then I could have flagged the Spam emails I received.

Take care.

A similar thing can happen if the spammer sends an email through AK, rather than start a conversation. It will appear to come from either Grumpy or myself, both Audiokarma.org email addresses. It is that way for emails between members over AK, and for notification emails for subscribed threads, conversations, or any other site email.

You can always go to the spammer's profile page, and report them from that page. A staff member will be on it.

One thing people should do when singing up at sites, stores, news, anywhere is have an email just for that kind of stuff. Never use your main email that you use for friends, family, billing banking, PayPal and main correspondence.

Indeed. I have four email addresses.

One for personal/family/friends, one for forum/online stuff, one for bills, and then a Gmail account for odds and ends.
