As an adult who once, in his teens, had 2 18'' Cerwin Vega subwoofers in the trunk of his 1988 Ford Thunderbird, I concur.

Even in my car audio heyday back in the 80's, I never went for the huge bass, preferring either one or two 10" woofers in the correct sized box. That's not to say that I didn't crank the hell out of it cuz I sure as hell did. Most folks were quite surprised at just how good car audio could sound when done with that in mind.

Reminds me of our shop class projects of the 80s. We would build speaker boxes for any speaker we could get a hold of. I built some speaker cabinets for some 6" full-range car speakers I got at Sun TV for $7 new, lol. One pair in each cabinet. Even my prerequisite shop-class-lamp had speakers in it.

I don't ask, I laugh. Outside of a few outliers, CVs deserved their reputation. And yes, I have owned 8 pairs over the years. Thankfully, other people really like em!

You hedged it a bit there near the end, and you have every right to your opinion (and I tend to agree with most of what you're saying about CV) but let's always remember,

Did the OP ever go back and see what the shop was asking?? I'm betting if I pulled the drivers on my little Minimus 17's and dropped in those boxes, fun would ensue.

DING! There was some thought involved in those and I'd be curious as to how that worked out.
