Speaker and Amp Pairing

I have the following components:

• Pioneer SX-3700
  • Continuous Power Output: 45 Watts per channel, min.
  • Impedance: 8 Ohms

What range of speaker specifications would I need to get some good sound flowing?
I'm new to this speaker-to-amp match up. I just get more and more confused the more research I conduct.

I had that receiver twice. It's a great sounding receiver. It sounded great both times. 1st time was JBL L-1 small monitors, second time was Fried Q/2 Signature bookshelf speakers. Both speakers are detailed with a more contemporary sound. It was a great match. By the late '70s early '80s amp design has evolved a bit and that receiver shows it. Like wise speakers from the '80s also improved. My 2 cents.

The Fried's would be great if you could find some good examples. It kind of depends on how much space you have also.

Speaker-to-amp match up in that order. You really need to start with a speaker and select a suitable amp.

There are far many more *flavors* of speakers than amplifiers. You really need to start there first based upon your musical preferences and sound priorities. Your circa 1980 receiver can drive a pretty wide range.
