speaker connectors - consequences, solution

The A channel on my SX-770 went completely out. I have NO electronics experience, but having gained a little confidence from the projects you guys take on here, and knowing I had AK looking over my shoulder, I cracked the case to see what was up. Years of using home-grown solutions, instead of buying those #%$* pioneer connectors had split the bakelite block into little shards, and the clips were just hanging loose inside the case. (And BTW, that's a dad-jim tight little hole those blocks are mounted in! No access from inside at all!)

Nudie of the open case, and a shot of the clips hanging outside the case after I removed the busted block (red circle).

Part Two

In searching for a CHEAP source of the speaker connectors (there isn't one I can find), I found a reference to part No. P-303-CCT. This is not a Pioneer part. I do not know who makes it. But I did track down a distributor, and these little guys are just $3.65! (Actually, you can get 'em for $2.38 if you order 500...)

These are 3 conductor, but it is dead simple to slip the center pin out, and they fit the profile perfectly. I like the enclosed block design, and I really like the price. If you have an electrical supply nearby, you may be able to find these locally. I got mine at http://www.alliedelec.com/Search/Pr...RCH=750-3202&ID=&MPN=P-303-CCT&DESC=P-303-CCT

No affiliation and all that jazz. The plugs are not as "snug" as I'd like, but I don't know how snug the pioneer plugs are, and I don't know how stretched the clips are in the B speaker block. They do make positive contact with the clips, and I'm gonna set the second pair up with a pigtail for bananna plugs so I don't have to rig something new everytime I want to try a different set of speakers with the amp.

Todd, I know that Vintage Electronics has the Pioneer connectors for $7.50 each, but, IIRC, Pioneer still sells them for about half that. I could check, but I don't have a Pioneer part number, to check on the Pioneer website. One of the Pioneer guys could tell you, I am sure.

Nice workaround, but, for next time, you might want to get the originals.

Not just any Pioneer guy, but THE Pioneer info guy has my back. Thanks, Doc. I thought they used to be lower in price, but I am getting older, and suffer from CRAFT. Anyway, Oz, if your workaround turns out to be less than satisfactory, there is the optimal solution.

Strange, that post never showed up in my search.

The Pioneer plugs are only half of what he needs, if i'm reading correctly. The speaker terminals on the back of his receiver have died, so he needs terminals and plugs in pairs. Pioneer may still have the plugs in stock, but not the matching speaker terminals.

If my schematics are correct, the socket/terminal block that the speaker plugs plug (plug plugs?) into are part number AKE-016. The Pioneer parts site indicates that they may become available:

http://parts.pioneerelectronics.com/part.asp?productNum=AKE%2D016

But I would not count on it.

Doc

EDIT: I found this link: https://www.ued.net/ued/addItems.do?itemCode=PNRAKE-016

I have never used this supplier, so I cannot tell you how they perform. Might be worth a call.

Also, Parts Store lists the part number. But, they list every part number ever created, and will drag you along for months on end when they have no chance of getting the part.

Foetusized, The B block is still good, and I'm only running 1 set of speakers anyway.

Luvin' & Strangelove: thanks for links, I had already found the Pioneer solution, I just wanted a cheaper solution. At first, I had the cheapest solution - soldered HO scale nickle-silver rail connectors to the wire ends. Slip right in and make good contact! The 303-CCT's just make the installation look more "finished" when I pull the amp out. Pure vanity.

I will prolly replace the busted block with binding posts or clips - the replacement part from Pioneer is OOS and shows as "more than 60 days" before any will be available. For a part that old, that sounds suspiciously like "never".
