Speaker Design Leaps Forward

I can't post a link to a sale here so you will have to do some work to see this quantum leap forward in speaker design. Go to St. Louis Craigslist; electronics. Then search for "speakers south st louis city". The ad is for "4 large.... Here is someone chance to own some future clasics. If you think that Turbo Thrusters with Vibrasonic Cones are great, prepare to be blown away.

I look at STL Craigslist almost daily. Those were listed previously and I just do not know why someone did not jump on them. Has to sound good.

There is a perfect companion set also listed just search "HUGE HOME STEREO (2) 15" My wife thinks I should buy both and put in out formal loving room.

Man if I only lived closer! Those are tha-bomb!!!

I only wish I was an acoustical engineer and could design sweet sweet loving speakers like those :)

I'm saving pictures and maybe trying to reverse engineer then me thinking trademarking the design.

Guess they were not willing to share their sub-woofer design :(

Pictures saved in case the listing gets pulled. Really is a monsterous Frankenspeaker, and not the good sort. Particularly interesting is that driver with the alu dustcap...has the cone been separated from the basket so it's in front of the baffle???

Would have fit perfectly with my wife's Halloween decorations last week, the outdoor kind.

You clearly are not familiar with a classic "open baffle" design.

Isn't it sad that you can't realize the design effort expended here? The cone isn't separated; it's just that the side lumps of wood were carved around the cone to allow it's full potential to be put in use.

But then that midrange (?) peeking sideways from the opening is strange. But I'm clever enough to immediately understand that it's partially covered to attenuate output. No resistors or other similarly stupid stuff there.

And don't you adore the placement of drivers around the woofers so as to create a concentric point source?

True classics.

I have a friend in engineering at Tannoy and sent him the link since I know they were looking for a replacement design for their Tannoy Westminster Royal SE.

He replied that they just had never thought of driver placement to this extent, "shear genius"!

:yikes: This is what happens when someone tries to re-invent Dahlquist DQ-10s while tripping on acid...

It is sad that the creator's knowledge was not on a par with his admirable levels of industriousness and creativity.

But wait--looking further at the photos, I note in a couple of cases what look like much more conventional speaker boxes to the right of the "naked cones framed by 2x4's" stuff. It's hard to really make out what we're looking at, but...I wonder if the person who mentioned 'modern art' wasn't on the right track. What we have here might be a large creative speaker installation that features a framework with a lot of non-functional speakers for 'asesthetic' effect.
