Speaker enclosure plans

I want to build my own speaker enclosures (actually a friend will, I'd hurt myself). I've looked around a bit on AK and off hand not found any links to plans for DIY speaker cabinets. Could someone give me the trheads or links to some DIY enclosures? I am looking for more than a box. A tapered horn or bass reflex type. thanks

Glenn -

Start with this web page at Georgia Tech Audio Laboratory Loudspeaker System.
http://users.ece.gatech.edu/~mleach/labsp/

The lab is run by W. Marshall Leach, Jr. For thiose that do not know Marshall -- he was a significant deisgner and author in Audio magainzes in 1970s. He is a Professor at Georgia Institute of Technology, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (Atlanta, Georgia).

Woofers for these deisgns can be purchased at the Audio Lab of Georgia, 3611 Clearview Place, Atlanta, GA 30340 (770-455-0571).

All other components may be purchased from the Audio Lab of Georgia
OR from
Madisound Speaker Components, 8982 Table Bluff Rd., Madison, Wis. 53711 (608-831-3433).
Madisound will accept credit card charge orders by telephone with a delivery time of about one week.
A second supplier for all components other than the woofer is A&S Speakers, 3170 23rd St., San Francisco, Calif. 94110 (415-641-4573).

WOOD?
A woodworking shop that can supply the materials and give assistance in cutting and/or assembling the boxes is Wood Wonders, 1200 Foster St., NW, Atlanta, (355-4778). They are skilled at furniture grade construction and do high quality work. They have the speaker plans on hand and can supply the cut panels or assembled boxes made of pre-veneered plywood. Marshall recommends them.
Wood Wonders will not cut the holes for the drivers in the front panels and the holes for the terminal cups in the rear panels unless you mark off the holes for them.

In addition to the excellent already-mentioned DIYAudio, you might want to look here:

http://www.frugel-horn.com
http://www.zillaspeak.com
http://www.t-linespeakers.org
http://www.zaphaudio.com

Frugel-horn is Planet10's DIY site, plenty of horn ideas and plans...

Zillaspeak has plans for Terry Cain's BIB design, about the simplest full-range folded horn you can make.

T-Line is the first place you should start looking if you're interested in tapered pipes or other unorthodox speaker projects, they have a few well-laid out projects and links to more tech info.

And Zaph's site is a good stop for anyone into DIY'ing speaks, he has a bunch of bass reflex designs and good reading about individual drivers.

Parts Express' latest project showcase had a folded transmission line, as well...

I could give you links for days, lol...been doing a lot of web surfing on the hunt to find replacements for my Forte II's.

I second the suggestions made, especially MRH's suggestion. If you actually want plans for a complete speaker, rather than just the cabinet, the mention of Marshall Leach is a good one. Don't overlook places like Madisound (and Zalytron and Meniscus if they still exist), or AK advertisers like PartsExpress, who have kits. I thought MCM was an advertiser, and they should be, and are also good.

Thanks everyone.

Boy, thats a lot of info to digest. I am not planning on building my own speakers (interesting as that sounds). I have also been emailing a few AKers including Paul C. Something will hatch.

Thanks again. I'll post pics of the project.
