Speaker Placement

I have a stereo setup in my family room. The room is 14 but 20 feet. I have two sets of speakers one is a bright pair of bookshelf speakers and the other is a warm sounding pair of floor speakers. There are wall mounted shelves going across one of the short walls, the bookshelf speakers are on these shelves about six inches from the rear wall near the corners of the room, about five feet high. The floor speakers are on the floor in the same position but about a foot from the rear wall. Should I be only using one set of speakers or is there a way I can make both sound better when using them together.

It might help if you could describe the room in more detail or take a picture and attach it here . So many variables. One rule of thought is to have the tweeters at the same height as your ears when seated. That's usually around 3 feet. Are you wanting to use both at the same time?

I still haven't heard a multi speaker set up sound better than a stereo set up. Especially true when using speakers that don't match.

So I should only use the floor speakers? I Reay don't mind using one or the other but if there's a way to make it sound good with both I would be happy

Place the bookshelf speakers on top of the floor standing speakers. Put the bookshelf upside down to get the tweeters close to the floor standing ones. Align the center of drivers as well as you can. Report back with your impressions.
