Speaker replacement OHM question...

Hi all,

Just picked up a mint pair of Energy Connoisseur C-4's. Long story short I blew a woofer in one. Did a bunch of research and found that the C-8 Connoisseur's used the same woofer just had two per cabinet instead of one. I'll post the specs of both below. Here is my question, I just ordered a pair of used C-8 Connoisseur woofers off ebay and they have shipped, no returns. I just pulled the blown speaker from the cabinet and it has a sticker that states: 9-6009/50 5DR 61055 4OHM 199521. The ones I ordered from ebay say: 9-6009/49 5DR 61054 8OHM 339925. I'm a total noob but understand that 4OHM will require more juice from my amp but wattage would be higher coming out or something like that. I'm assuming I'll be OK with using the 8OHM speaker but would like some feedback on whether I have screwed up or not. That and should I replace the good speaker in the other cabinet with the extra 8OHM that I will be receiving or does it not really make much of a difference. Part of me is hoping that the C-4 is labled as 4OHM but it's actually running at 8OHM as the specs below show. I'm a bit confused and would really appreciate some feedback. Thanks in advance!

If you replace a 4 ohm woofer with an 8 ohm woofer it will change not just the power drawn by the driver but also the crossover value to that driver.

I would guess that they used 2 8 ohm woofers in parallel in the C8, so as to present a 4 ohm load to the crossover. But that's just a guess.

Why not measure the good woofer in your other cabinet? Kind of strange to see a 4 ohm driver in a speaker with a rating of 8 ohms, but I'm sure others will weigh on in cases where it's happened.

Thanks for the input.

Unfortunately I have no way to measure the good woofer or how to actually do that. I'll Google it up out of curiosity, I think I have a volt meter out in the garage somewhere but I've never used it, I'm assuming that's whats used to measure but again, not a clue. Hopefully someone else will chime in. Kind of kicking myself for ordering so quickly but once I saw the specs and that they were supposedly 8OHM I assumed I was safe. If I would have just pulled the blown one first I would have caught the OHM discrepancy.....errrrr.
 
Ok....called Energy up (Klipsch). Explained the situation and they said using the 8ohm from the C-8 would make my system 12ohm, assuming the tweeter is 4ohm and that would starve the tweeter and likely blow it eventually. Anyone?
