Hi All,

I have spent a lot of time trying to find a site that talks solely about speaker repairs and spares. Unilike with pre-amps, amps and EQs etc. many of us lesser-mortals can undertake speaker repairs as these range from "carpentry" to relatively simple soldiering. There is of course the upper-end of work such as the re-winding of driver coils - but many people have at least tried to do this - and succeeded!

The other issue is the sourcing of spare parts, as many of the problems we face with older speakers is to do with finding the bits and pieces. And where we cannot get the exact replacement part, we then have to work out what might act as a suitable substitute, whilst understanding the knock-on effects of such a course of action. For example, me might not be able to get an original tweeter, but a modern version might be a better solution as long as we then adjust the cross-over accordingly.

As an additonal thought, there have been many advances in material technology since the '70s and '80s, and people might have all sorts of useful tricks up their sleeves as to how to solve problems with hardening cone material, cabinet damping etc.

With all the above in mind, (and assuming that such a thread does not already exist), I am looking for advice anyone can give about replacing the mid-drivers on Celstion Ditton 662s. Does anyone have any experience they would llike to share - and can anyone tell me of a source of T3040 mid-drivers that might be lurking in a garage or on a shelf somewhere?

I will try to get more interest in the topic by posting on other, existing threads. However, none of my private messages on this subject have elicited any response to date. But, in the meantime, if anyone should read this thread, thenI am looking for a pair of T 3040 mid drives for Ditton 662 speakers. Please DM me if you either have some, or know of any that might be avail. Many thanks.

Thanks very much for that pointer. I will talk to them this afternoon and find out more. Its a pretty obscure "factoid"! Are you a Celestion speaker owner?

Have spoken to several people who work in the new and vintage speaker-arenas who say the Visaton GL 50 is a very good substitute for the Celestion T3040 mid-drive, although its rating has to be dropped from 90 to 88dB to match the older drive. So I am now looking into the mods to the cabinet to allow it to be retro-fitted.
