Speaker stands for ESS AMT1?

i recently picked up a pair of ESS AMT 1s. I’m still figuring speaker placemat as I’m not a speaker aficionado. Would using speaker stands be beneficial to these speakers? Or were they meant to be floor standing speakers only? I had some rather large speakers before, even larger than these, and speaker stands made a noticeable difference. If anyone can recommend using them, could someone also reccomend speaker stands that would fit beneath these speakers? They are also the version that is ported without passive on the bottom of the speaker where the controls and terminals are. Hopefully this wouldn’t be affected by stands. I’ll add a photo of their current placement. Thanks for all your help!

It never even occurred to me. The tweeters are at ear-height for serious listening — that's what stands are mainly for. So what are you seeking? That was my only issue. I really love the way they look, and stands may make the look abnormal. I have no issues with the way these speakers sound currently, I was just curious if anyone had experimented with elevation. As far as the speakers I had prior, I was using a pair of JSE infinite slope model ones. These speakers about 30 inches tall, in comparison to the ESS speakers that are 24 inches tall without measuring tweeter. The improvement was with the bass. The bass was better distributed with the elevation.

They are about your level while sitting, but standing there about waist level. I think it should be fine as we normally listen sitting down

My AMTs are well above my ears and tilting the down to point right at me the imaging really came into focus.

One thing to note, if you really have the AMT 1s, with 10 inch woofer, these are ported at the bottom in a sort of transmission line. I loved the way they sound once you give them a bit of power, like 100 watt higher current amp. If I recall, they are 4 ohm speakers.

Edit: The ones I had were driven initially by a Yamaha M40, then a Kenwood Supreme 500, a NAD C370, a Kenwood M1A, and a Bose 1801. I tried other amps or integrateds and receivers with disappointing results.

For placement, I found the best was in the centre of our room facing the listener, flat on the floor with the speakers about 20 feet from the listener, angle slightly towards the listener.

This positioning wasn’t ideal for the AMT 1s, but the AMT 1aM trumped them for prime position.



Note that the bass enclosure is ported towards the bottom and then out behind the speakers.

I prefer and get great results with them on the floor ( Had them on stands and didn’t like the sound). Currently playing through my Yamaha C/60 M/60 combo .
