Speaker Stuffing

Building a set of high power three ways from an old Advent cabinets. Basically as PA speakers to be used at outdoor events. Just need to be loud.

Besides the normal insulation like fiberglass, has anybody else experimented with other materials? Old clothes, pillows, odd stuff.

I most likely will use the glass, but thought I would ask.

That white pillow stuffing stuff has always worked well for me and more friendly between the fingers for sure. In addition, you don't mind pulling the stuff apart a little more to increase the fluff factor if that's in the cards.
Ive used fiberglass more for lining a cabinet as it separates well into layers if necessary.
Just my dos centavos.

The B&W DM11's I just opened up look like they're stuffed with shredded cloth, it's weird.

On ported enclosures, I use either yellow fiberglass or Pink Panther on two adjacent walls only. And sealed/acoustic suspension enclosures, I loosely fill them with Acousta-Stuf, which is a mixture of poly-fill and fiber material.

Why do a lot of ported speakers have one or more sides exposed?

The fibre pillow stuffing from Wal-Mart. $2 a bag. Enuf to stuff 1 pillow.
