speaker surround repair

Hey folks, the foam surrounds on the woofers in my 20 year old Infinitys have dry-rotted. I know that I can take them to a shop and have the surrounds replaced but I don't have the $ and want to know if I can do the replacement myself. Does anyone have any advice on how to do it, please? I'm thinking maybe there are kits available for such a project?

Check ebay for kits. Plenty of videos on youtube, and from places that sell surrounds. By all means, do it yourself! Not hard at all.

Friendly suggestion - use the Google Search available under "Search" to turn up multiple, detailed step-by-step threads on refoaming. Easy, cheap job.

Do it yourself!

Do it yourself. It also pays to shop around for foams. Check at matelectronics.com for great prices.

I also recommend that you just do the foams and not remove the dustcaps and shim the coil. Find the online instructions for attaching the foam to the cone and then gluing the foam to the basket. I do it that way and it works great.
